# Fingerprint skills

> Install Fingerprint skills to give your AI coding agent specialized knowledge about Fingerprint.

Fingerprint skills are installable packages that give AI coding agents specialized knowledge about Fingerprint. Once installed, your agent can help you add Fingerprint to your stack, act on Smart Signals, serve the JavaScript agent from your own domain, configure the Rules Engine, and more.

For example, ask your agent to add Fingerprint to your app, and it detects your framework, installs the right SDK, adds visitor identification on the frontend, and adds server-side verification on the backend.

Skills follow the [Agent Skills](https://agentskills.io) standard and work with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, and other compatible agents. The source is available in the [`fingerprintjs/skills`](https://github.com/fingerprintjs/skills) GitHub repository.

## Why use skills

* **Matched to your stack:** your agent applies the integration guide for the framework your project uses.
* **Secure by default:** every integration pairs frontend identification with server-side verification and keeps your secret API key out of client code.
* **Current APIs:** each skill points your agent to Fingerprint's live documentation, so it confirms package names, options, and response fields against the current version.

## Prerequisites

* A [Fingerprint account](https://dashboard.fingerprint.com/signup) to get your API keys
* A coding agent that supports Agent Skills

<Info>
  Fingerprint skills set up JavaScript agent v4 and Server API v4. If your app already uses
  JavaScript agent v3, your agent keeps your existing integration and doesn't migrate it. To
  upgrade, follow [Migrating JavaScript agent from v3 to v4](/reference/migrating-from-v3-to-v4).

## Install

  <Tab title="npx skills">
    Use the [`skills`](https://skills.sh) CLI to install Fingerprint skills for any supported agent:

    ```bash theme={"theme":"github-dark-dimmed"}
    npx skills add fingerprintjs/skills
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude Code">
    Fingerprint skills are available as a Claude Code plugin. The plugin also connects the [Fingerprint MCP server](/ai/mcp-server).

    In the Claude Code CLI, add the marketplace and install the plugin:

    ```bash theme={"theme":"github-dark-dimmed"}
    /plugin marketplace add fingerprintjs/skills
    /plugin install fingerprint@fingerprint
    ```

    Run `/reload-plugins` to activate the plugin.

    In the Claude desktop app, open **Customize** > **Plugins**, add the marketplace source `fingerprintjs/skills`, select the **fingerprint** plugin, and click **Install**. Restart the app to activate the plugin.

    After installing, start the guided setup in any project:

    ```text theme={"theme":"github-dark-dimmed"}
    /fingerprint:get-started
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Cursor">
    Go to **Settings** > **Plugins** and click **Browse Marketplace** to find Fingerprint. You can also paste `https://github.com/fingerprintjs/skills` into the **Pasted Link** field. Select the **fingerprint** plugin to install it.

    Fingerprint is also listed in the [Cursor directory](https://cursor.directory/plugins/fingerprint).

    Clone the [`fingerprintjs/skills`](https://github.com/fingerprintjs/skills) repository and copy the folders in `skills/` to your agent's skills directory:

    | Agent | Skills directory |
    | - | - |
    | Claude Code | `~/.claude/skills/` |
    | Cursor | `~/.cursor/skills/` |
    | Codex | `~/.codex/skills/` |
    | OpenCode | `~/.config/opencode/skills/` |
    | Pi | `~/.pi/agent/skills/` |
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Use skills

Open your project in your coding agent and ask in plain language:

```text theme={"theme":"github-dark-dimmed"}
Add Fingerprint to this app
```

Your agent reads your project, loads the matching skill, and makes the changes. Review and test each change before you commit it.

For the full list of skills and the stacks they support, see the [`fingerprintjs/skills` README](https://github.com/fingerprintjs/skills#whats-covered).

## Skills and the MCP server

Skills give your agent knowledge about Fingerprint. The [Fingerprint MCP server](/ai/mcp-server) gives your agent live access to your workspace, so it can search identification events and manage environments and API keys. Use both together: the Claude Code plugin includes the MCP server, and the MCP server also exposes the same skills through its `list_skills` tool.
